The building of resorts around Ubud is approaching that of a frenzy. Not sure if that’s a good thing, as with every emergence a piece of coveted landscape disappears, but at least one resort has taken an interesting approach by aiming to not only integrate the building structure into the landscape by use of “green roofs”, but stretching the green concept to even include organic laundry (soap nuts!) for the guests and the resorts linens.
The Japanese architect and his Singapore firm settled on a for Ubud unusual stylistic approach: post-modernism. The related cool lines and hard edge walls nevertheless contrast interestingly with the surrounding savage landscape Bali is famous for, bringing the outdoors indoors, as captured in the photographs here. The aimed-for ambiance is definitely upscale, as will be reflected in the cost of accommodation, but indulging in the offered services also brings the added reward of knowing that you’ve headed for a low-carbon footprint vacation—that is, if you can somehow justify the impact of jet travel…
We’ll get back to this place once it’s officially open. For now peruse the photographs and decide for yourself if “green” and “style” are the match you are looking for when dreaming of your next vacation.
